The Pacific Northwest is one of the most beautiful places you could be, especially if you are located in the Vancouver area. With stunning mountain views, an abundance of hikes that are essentially in your backyard, and a lively local restaurant scene, you’re bound to love it here. Are you considering a move to Southwest Washington? Or perhaps you just moved here and are wondering what types of activities this beautiful area you now call home has to offer. Here are five things you should do when you get settled.

Esther Short Park

Located in downtown Vancouver, this park is 5 acres and the oldest public square in the entire state of Washington. The park is rich in history and serves as a host to many events throughout the year like the Vancouver Farmers Market. You can also host your own events here (see the city website for information regarding cost and permits). Overall, you’ll have a great time wandering around and seeing everything here.

Vancouver Waterfront Park

The Vancouver Waterfront Park will give you a gorgeous view of the Columbia River. This massive 7.3-acre park features benches, open lawn areas, a playground, restrooms, walking paths, and a stunning water feature. It also leads to some amazing restaurants such as Twigs Bistro and WildFin where you can enjoy a meal right on the water.

Vancouver Farmers Market

The Vancouver Farmers Market runs seasonally, with different vendors in the summer season than in the Fall. Featuring local farmers and vendors, this is a great way to get out and not only meet people but directly support local businesses and the economy. You’ll find freshly grown produce, flowers, homemade jams, pastries, and non-food-related products. It’s definitely a weekend activity that you’ll want to do when you get settled.

Visit a Local Brewery

Vancouver boasts a large selection of craft breweries, each one unique. Visit Vancouver USA did a great blog post with a self-guided brewery tour that features 10 breweries all within a 1.5-mile stretch, but there are so many more to choose from. Personal favorites of the team are Pacific House Brewery, Loowit, Fort Side, and Brother’s Cascadia. If you’re out in Ridgefield or Washougal, 3 Peaks and 5440 Brewing are a must.

Officer’s Row

If you are any sort of history buff, Officer’s Row is a great place to check out. Located adjacent to the Fort Vancouver Historical Site, this promenade has beautifully restored Victorian homes that were built for US Army Officers that were stationed here, including Ulysses S. Grant. You’re free to walk around on a self-guided tour of the site, or book a walking tour through the Clark County Historical Museum during the summer months.

This list is only a starting point for things you can see and do when you move to Vancouver. Be sure to check out our Facebook and Instagram for more information about Vancouver and other areas in SW Washington.
